About

Since March 2011, Story League has presented sold-out shows all around Washington, D.C. It was founded by writer/performer SM Shrake (The Moth storyslam winner, This American Life, Mortified) along with the author (Up for Renewal) and journalist Cathy Alter.

Story League was born of the desire for a more collaborative storytelling experience, in which the participants all help one another hone their craft leading up to a show. Story League is inclusive: We proudly bring in talent from New York, Philadelphia, and Baltimore to join our local performers, building bridges between the cities. The group often meets socially for mixers (open to all), and anyone is welcome to try out for our curated shows by attending one of our monthly Story Circles.

Every 3rd Wednesday of the month Story League holds a Story Contest in partnership with Busboys and Poets, where anyone can come try their hand at telling a 7-minute story onstage for a chance to win a $100 cash prize. After each 5 contests, we hold a Tournament where the prize amount jumps to $250.
